Albert Hall Museum at a glance
The Albert Hall Museum sits in Ram Niwas Garden in Jaipur. The architect was Swinton Jacob, the style is Indo-Saracenic, and the foundation stone was laid in 1876. The building is lit in colour in the evening, which makes it one of the easiest places in the city to photograph after dark.
This is an independent guide. It is not run by the museum, the state or any tour company. Fees and hours change, so treat the numbers below as the 2026 figures and check them again on the day.
What the museum holds
A mixed collection of art and objects.
Miniature paintings
Small, detailed paintings are among the best known parts of the collection. Allow time, because the works are meant to be looked at closely.
Sculpture and textiles
The galleries include sculptures and textiles from the region. Not every object is on view at all times, so do not plan the visit around a single piece.
Weapons and a garden carpet
Visitors also find weapons and a Persian garden carpet in the displays.
The Egyptian mummy
The museum is known for an Egyptian mummy. Displays are rearranged from time to time, so it is not a promise that it is on view on your day.

Keep your student card with you. Rules for children and for seniors differ from place to place, so confirm them at the ticket counter.

Opening hours and the evening visit
Day and evening windows are separate.
Daytime
Daytime hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. That is the safest slot if you want to see the galleries without rushing.
Evening
The evening window runs from 7 p.m. until 8 or 9:30 p.m., and the shorter version is limited to the ground floor. Plan on 8 p.m. and treat the later time as a bonus; ask at the gate.
Closing days
Tuesday and the Holi holiday may be closing days, or the museum may be open every day. Ask at your hotel or at the gate before you travel across town.
The lit facade
The exterior is lit in colour in the evening. Seeing the lights from outside does not mean the galleries are open, so do not take the glow as a sign of opening hours.
Fitting it into a day
A common Jaipur plan.
A common four-day plan for Jaipur puts the City Palace, the Hawa Mahal and the Albert Hall Museum on one day. That is a lot of indoor time, so pick the two you care about most and leave the third for the evening or a second visit. In the hot months, start early and stay in the shade between noon and 3 p.m.
The museum name is explained in two ways: after a museum in London, or after Albert Edward, the Prince of Wales. The Pink City itself was painted pink in the same year the foundation stone was laid, for that prince's visit. Read more in our neighbouring guide to the forts around Jaipur if you want to add Amber Fort, which has its own page and tickets.
