Delhi to Jaipur in one day
Jaipur is the Pink City in Rajasthan and the third corner of the Golden Triangle with Delhi and Agra. Many visitors reach it from Delhi, and a day trip is possible. It is a long day, so choose two or three sights in the Old City and skip the rest.
The fastest option is the morning Shatabdi train. The times below are examples for the train numbers named. They are not a live timetable for your date, so check the current timetable and your reservation before you plan around them.

Train, car or the Golden Triangle
What each way of getting to Jaipur gives you.
| Option | Times or distance | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Shatabdi 12015 to Jaipur | Departs New Delhi 6:10 a.m., arrives Jaipur 10:35 a.m. | Daily, classes CC and EC. Departure can also be 6:05 a.m., so check the current timetable. |
| Shatabdi 12016 back to Delhi | Departs Jaipur 5:35 p.m., arrives New Delhi 10:30 p.m. | Daily, classes CC and EC. Arrival can also be 10:40 p.m. |
| By road | About 260 to 273 km, roughly 4.5 to 5 hours | Figures vary by tour program. Traffic and your starting point change the time. |
| Golden Triangle route | Delhi, Agra and Jaipur | Jaipur to Agra is about 250 km and 5 hours on a suggested itinerary. This is a multi-day route, not a day trip. |
Train prices depend on class and date, so check them when you reserve. Do not count on boarding a Shatabdi without a reserved seat.

A realistic day plan
Based on the example train times above.
Arrival and the way to the Old City
If you arrive at 10:35 a.m., you start the sightseeing around 11:30 a.m. at the earliest. Jaipur has a Metro. From Railway Station to Badi Chaupar in the Old City, the fare is INR 15 under the tariff valid since 31 January 2025. The Metro stops are Railway Station, Sindhi Camp, Chandpole, Chhoti Chaupar and Badi Chaupar. A taxi or auto-rickshaw is the other option. Check the current Metro timetable first.
Pink City guide โHawa Mahal
The palace is open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 or 5:00 p.m., so do not plan for the later time. Foreign adults pay INR 600 and Indian adults INR 100 as of 2026. Many visitors see the facade from the street and go inside only if time allows.
Hawa Mahal timings โCity Palace and Jantar Mantar
The City Palace museum is open from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and the last museum ticket is sold at 6:00 p.m. It sets its own prices, separate from the state monuments. The textile gallery in the Mubarak Mahal has been closed for restoration since 27 March 2026. Jantar Mantar is close by and fits into the same walk.
City Palace guide โThe return train
With a 5:35 p.m. departure, plan to be at the station well before. The return takes 4 h 55 min on the train times, so you reach Delhi late in the evening. Leave a buffer for traffic in Jaipur.
A day trip leaves no time for the forts outside the city. For Amber Fort and the hill forts, see the Amber Fort guide, which treats them as a separate day.
Before you travel from abroad
Entry rules change, so read the official pages before you book.
e-Visa basics
As of October 2026, the Indian government e-Visa page lists e-Tourist visas for 30 days, 1 year and 5 years. Whether you qualify depends on your nationality. Apply at least 4 days before travel and no earlier than 120 days before your planned entry. The fee depends on nationality, and a bank fee of 3 percent is added. Check the official government site for your case before you pay anyone.
Passport and documents
Your passport should be valid for at least 6 months when you apply and have 2 blank pages. A return or onward ticket and enough funds are required.
Arrival card
The e-Visa page also describes a digital e-Arrival Card, submitted within 72 hours before arrival. It is separate from the visa. Confirm with the official site whether it applies to you. The number of entries on a short tourist visa varies, so read your own visa document.
Flying into Jaipur
Jaipur International Airport (JAI) is also called Sanganer Airport. The operator offers prepaid taxis, app-based taxis and cars for the way into town and says there is no dedicated public airport service. Plan to arrive 2 hours before a domestic flight and 4 hours before an international one.
