When Jaipur is easiest to visit

Most of what you come to see in Jaipur is outdoors or in open courtyards: the Hawa Mahal facade, the City Palace courts, the Jantar Mantar instruments and the bazaars. That makes temperature the main factor. Long-term averages show that November to February is clearly cooler than April to June.

The figures below are averages for the Jaipur weather station from 1991 to 2020. They describe a typical month, not a forecast for your dates. Individual days can be hotter, cooler or wetter.

Month by month: what to expect

A reading of the averages above, not an official recommendation.

November to February

This is the most comfortable stretch for walking the Old City. Days are mild to warm, and nights get cool, especially in December and January with lows of 9.9 and 8.4 °C. November is the driest month at 1.9 mm. Bring a light layer for the evening.

March

March is warmer, with an average high of 32.0 °C, but still dry at 4.4 mm. It works for sightseeing if you start early and take breaks in the shade.

April to June

This is the hot season. The average high rises from 37.6 °C in April to 41.1 °C in May. If you come now, plan outdoor sights early in the morning and keep the middle of the day for rest or indoor stops. Cover your head and carry water.

July to September

The rainy months bring the heaviest rain, with July and August above 190 mm each. Temperatures are lower than in May, but humidity and wet streets can slow a day of walking. Rain often changes plans for open-air sights.

October

October is still warm, with an average high of 34.1 °C, but the rain has mostly stopped at 19.4 mm. Nights start to cool to 20.1 °C. It is a transition month, and the pleasant weather builds through November.

Heat, light and daily timing

Practical points for any month.

Heat advice

In heatwaves, national disaster guidance advises against sun exposure between 12:00 and 15:00. Drink water regularly, wear light clothing and cover your head. This is general advice for India, not a warning for a specific date in Jaipur.

Plan around the opening hours

The Hawa Mahal is open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 or 5:00 p.m. In the hot months, the morning hours are the cooler part of that window. The City Palace is open from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., so it can take the afternoon.

Forts and hill walks

Amber Fort and the hill forts involve more climbing and open ground. In May and June, plan them for the cooler hours. See the Amber Fort guide for those sites.

Festivals and dates

Dates move each year, so confirm them before you book.

Holi

Holi (Dhulandi) fell on 4 March 2026 in the state holiday calendar. The date changes every year. The City Palace is closed on Dhulandi, the second day of Holi. Do not assume that every other sight closes, and check each one for your date.

Diwali

Diwali falls on 8 November 2026. Check opening hours for the days around it, and expect busy streets and bazaars.

Jaipur Literature Festival

The next festival is announced for 14 to 18 January 2027 at the Clarks Amer hotel. Prices, registration rules and sessions are set by the organizers, so check their pages. If your trip overlaps, look for a room early.
